Update from 10/21/25: I will not be re-doing this project. I feel like I uploaded enough tracks from this project to not propose the need to take on this project again. Plus this was during a time where I felt alot of criticism coming my way and I wanted to be real with the folks tuning in. Not to mention, this album was actually uploaded to MediaFire but got reported off the database...just like Recovery....

Now that it's well over 15 years since that took place...I can confidently say the content of this album did not age well with me. I heard a few songs recently and honestly....not that good of an album. As with all my other old lost works; if anyone from Datpiff or zshare prior to their closure grabbed a copy of this...please send it my way and I'll be happy to unshelve it and re-distribute.

Originally I planned for this project to just simply re-release the songs already on YouTube with a few re-done ones for this Purple Tape at the same time that I put out Eminem Show...not anymore. What I will probably end up doing is thoroughly listen to each of the songs I have preserved to ensure sound quality. If they don't cut it then I'll have no choice but to re-do them.

This will take a lot of time because I'm essentially piecing together a project I did a very long time ago. It won't be as fluid as how I did Da Drought 3 since that project didn't have as many sound problems as this one. Because of all this, I won't be able to put this one out at the same time as Eminem Show. I really want to do that project now (Tired of hearing Business blend into Without Me and then I didn't upload Without Me dude...). Expect this one to come out closer to the end of the year. I may do this one with another Eminem tape like The Death of Slim Shady or Music to Be Murdered By.

Purple Tape History (10/2/25): This was not my first attempt at chopping this mixtape. My first version was early 2009, like right when Cham dropped this. Man that first run was bad y'all, but when I finally calmed down and actually put effort into how the tracks sounded, this project came about. Thankfully, I didn't upload it to zshare, so I still have the download link. If I were to lose this, I'm not sure if I would have re-done it to be honest.

It's still a bit chop-heavy, and this was before I even knew about Purple Tape Recordz. And I was using an older method of chopping to record my scratches since I still wasn't good at timing the scratch to crossfade on my traditional 3 beat wind-backs like I am now.

So if you have the copy that has the red cover with fire, delete it. This one is better by a long shot, and I put a lot of effort into some of the song blends. I didn't re-name this tape either since the cover design is pretty cool IMO. Enjoy, DL link is below tracklist.

Update from 10/21/25:

This one was fun to do. Since a lot of H-Town music was new to me at the time I did this album, I was unaware Michael Watts already chopped this album up. About half-way through chopping it myself, I realized this and paused for a while to enjoy Watt's version. His transition scratches are so clean.

Anyway, I wanted to have a version with more chops. So I decided to finish the tape regardless of Watts having a masterpiece already. I thought this came out good, but alas it was lost with the other bulk of mixtapes/albums I chopped back then.

If anyone has this purple tape from Datpiff or Zshare before they imploded, please feel free to email them to me at djhowiethemixxiya@gmail.com and I will redistribute the links as needed. Until then, this project will be shelved as I have no intentions of re-doing this.

Wanted to make a version of this album that was different from Watts'

Update from 10/21/25:

This project, as well as Eminem Show and Relapse, will be re-done in the sense of a Redux. I'm approaching this one with mixed feelings as I did with Relapse. It's like...the quality of some of the tracks is fine...but I know for the few I put on YouTube I could probably chop them better (Bitch Please II and Under the Influence comes to mind). Marshall Mathers (the song) is fine, I'm not touching that one...it doesn't need anything additional besides some kick adjustment.

Either way, there will be mostly new tracks for this. Stay tuned.

History of Purple Tape (10/2/25):
The message below is from 17 year old me shortly after my birthday. I was very excited about the direction hip hop was going and my new C&S journey I partook in. Other than 2Pac's All Eyez on Me when it was on Datpiff, this is probably my most successful purple tape in regards to popularity. The chops weren't perfect, but they were way better than the projects I was putting out in April of 2009...and my hype clearly showed...

10/30/2009: On October 28 the actual mixtape was leaked to the internet. On October 29 I started chopping this tape at like 5:00 PM. I finished at 11:00 PM, same day. RECORD FINISH FOR ME! And it's THE BEST C&S Project I made so far :D!

This tape is somehow still alive. Wish some of my others made the old journey. Oh well, have fun if you're curious about my style from October 28th of 2009. I collaborated with a lot of DJs and I was doing several projects on my own. I think this was the first project I found the jet flanger effect and I started using it but I was still using that weird spacey one even on this tape. So glad I don't use that space flanger anymore.

History & Update (10/22/25):

This mixtape had an interesting history. I had a close friend who knew I chopped and screwed music. He was actually the one who inspired me to chop and screw Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I later did Minutes to Midnight when I had somewhat more conscious idea of how to chop a song. Anyway, this was mostly a joke but some songs apparently sounded good to people.

I almost could not chop this album for how hilarious it was to hear this mess slowed down and chopped up. If by some miracle someone has this album from Datpiff or zshare (before the link expired), please do send this one to me. It'll have some sentimental value, as well as be a humorous addition to the restored archive.

As of right now, I have no intentions of re-doing this album. Shelved until someone sends it in.

History of Purple Tape (10/19/25):

This was another Datpiff requested tape. I had a pretty sizeable fan-base on Datpiff who inspired a lot of the albums I chose to do during that year. It was truly a fun time to be a part of the chopped scene. Anyway, this project was not my best work at the time either. And unfortunately, it did not survive the purge journey that took place with damn near all my projects.

I will consider re-doing this one. There were some really good songs on here I don't mind giving a go again. Stay tuned for this one, it may come down the line sometime in 2026. Typically with Redux releases, I like to either include old tracks I'm able to salvage as bonus tracks or throw in a few extra tracks that weren't a part of the original release. For this one, I will look into what I can do but I don't think this album had any bonus songs that came out with it. Might just do one of his mixtapes as CD2, not sure yet. Still need time to decide, so in the meantime I can put time into more refinement.

A fan from Datpiff reached out to me about this one, and he even sent me all the songs he wanted on the tape. I definitely went out my way to hook him up with a dope tape since he heard my Meteora / Hybrid Theory projects back in '09 and wanted me to do this. If he's still out there, please send me this tape my man! I'll re-post it online so others can hear that old chopped & screwed rock sound I had. This was a very interesting tape to chop! I bumped it a few times after I finished it as well. I definitely remember having a hard time finding a good picture for the band haha.

Anyway, I don't have this one either. It got lost due to Datpiff closure and didn't meet download numbers on zshare so they deleted it back then. Shelved for now unless the requestor or someone who still has this tape shares it with me.
